Concrete petals extend from the decaying centers of flowers, a lacy membrane envelops a discarded beer can, and wilted blooms stand upright, animated by cast plastic. Presenting an exaggerated look at the impact of human activity on the environment, I envision a dystopic future in which the boundaries separating nature from the human made have collapsed. I obstruct natural processes of decomposition, manipulating nature and reflecting the non-degradable behavior of pollution by contrasting the permanence of plastic, metal, and concrete against the perishable fragility of organic matter. By creating a visceral, tactile exploration of environmental decay, I attempt to capture the physical immediacy of environmental destruction.
