I strive to break the tactile barrier associated with art by creating functional ceramic works. I want people to interact with my work and I want my work to interact with people. With functional ceramics, I can bridge the gap between the artist and the viewer. When I create a mug, a bowl, or a tea pot, I want people to touch it, pick it up, and use it. Drinking tea is a social act that people generally do together. I take the theme of tea into my work and focus on creating tea pots and tea bowls. When I make a tea pot, I want someone to use it to make tea and share that tea with someone else. I view the creative process as a collaboration between the artists, the work, and the user. My art can be used to create. Art is a collaborative process and I hope to inspire others to collaborate.
